Tag Archives: The Ergs

It’s the end of the century part 2…

Here are my top 11 demos slash seven inch forty fives.

11.  Lemuria – Ozzy

Too awesome to not include in the list.  I love everything this band does.  My only problem is that it is too short.  “Expert Herder” is my favorite outta the two songs on here.

10. Deep Sleep – Paranoid Futures

More of the same great melodic 80’s style hardcore.  In the vein of Descendents, Adolescents, JFA, California.  The bass player in this band is so ridiculously awesome also.

9. Merchandise – Demo Tape

Members of Cult Ritual.  This album is very unique sounding and incredibly good.  The first song has such an awesome build up to an even better climax.  It keeps you hooked for the rest of the demo.  Post-punk like Fugazi, kinda.

8. Foreign Objects – Demo

Awesome, snotty female fronted punk.  Members of Conversions, Ampere and others.  It kinda sounds like a more Bikini Kill styled Conversions.  It’s real great stuff, and I’ve been hooked since I saw them.

7. Nomos – Self Titled 7″/Demo

Great, fast, energetic hardcore.  This is how hardcore should be played.

6. Nightbirds -Demo

Members of Forward to Death, the Ergs!, Tear it Up, among others playing awesome 80’s hardcore worship.  Has a distinct west coast feel to it, but they’re from New Jersey.  “Paranoid Times” is great.  Dig that surf guitar.  If you like the Adolescents check this out.

5. Nazi Dust – Demo Tape

This is so heavy and fast.  Its got it all, crusty parts, youth crew parts, and straight up power violence parts.  I’m so psyched to see this band this week.

4. Vaccine – Demo

Straigtedged power violence.  This ripping one sided seven inch is just over 2 minutes long.  It’s like a really hard flurry of punches to the chest.  FUCKING AWESOME.

3. Confines – Demo

Members of Failures, Cut the Shit, Brain Killer, tons of other awesome Boston bands.  The dude who sang for Cut the Shit and early Bones Brigade sings on this.  It’s along the lines of Cut the Shit.  I just managed to say Cut the Shit in every sentence in this part.  Cut the Shit rules by the way.

2. Paint it Black – Amnesia

I love everything Dan Yemin does.  He is my idol.  His lyrics on this killer record are so powerful and sincere.  I haven’t heard hardcore this good in such a long time.  This might just be their best release too.  The other 7 inch they put out, “Surrender” is also really awesome, but isn’t as good as this one.  Way to go.

1. The Ergs!/The Measure [SA] – Split 7″

Let’s discuss the Pros and Cons of this record.  Pros: The Ergs!, The Measure, Norm Macdonald, Chevy Chase, There are two versions of it, each band covers a song by the others, every song is fantastic.  Cons:  Nothing.

I hope 2010 doesn’t suck.

He has no hands! (I didn’t feel like finishing this one)

I apologize for not updating a whole lot to all my faithful readers.  I will try harder.

Anyways, this is my Anti-Bummer Summer mix.  It is a combination of Pop-punk, Indie, Post Rock, New Wave, Garage, Surf, Rap, blah blah blah.  If you like any of that stuff, check it out.  Even if you don’t check it out anyways and maybe you’ll be surprised.  Some of the songs segue really nicely into each other and some are abrupt and shittily done.  I tried to make everything the same volume too, but track 8 is a lot quieter than the rest.  I had to divvy it up into two .rar files, so click on each picture to get the whole thing.  Also, its all .m4a files so you have to use iTunes or figure out how to change it to .mp3.

I’m not right I can’t be right…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

birthday-copy

That’s my birthday present to myself.  COLD HARSH REALITY.  I’m not sure if I’m going to color it or not, but since I think these next two things I did are so successful, I might.

Speaking of which:

It reminds me a lot of Dr. Seuss.  If you thought that too before you read this you win a prize!  Actually, name it something Dr. Seuss would name it and I’ll REALLY give you a prize.

CHECK OUT WHAT I GOT IN THE MAIL TODAY!

The Ergs! record is a double LP that collects a bunch of their 7″s and Singles and hard to find recorded stuff.  There’s different versions of songs (with egg shakers) and awesome Replacements, Nirvana, and Gin Blossoms covers (also a cool version of the Peanuts theme song).  It’s really really good, and if you like this band (which you should) you should probably get ahold of this.

The Chinese Telephones record is another great pop-punk release.  Unfortunately this band broke up recently.  Total bummer, because this album is awesome.  I wish I could have seen them live because I bet they are intense and full of energy.  I wish the lyrics were printed somewhere, but I guess the singer has a strict no lyrics printing policy or something.  Whatever, what I think I’m hearing is still awesome.  Check ’em out, click on the picture!

Lastly, Government Warning’s first 7″.  This is still probably my favorite release by them.  Check it out if you like punk, duh.

Tomorrow’s just another dayyyyyyy….

AHHH! Sorry I haven’t updated!  I AM LAZY!  Also, I’ve been working and hanging out with people.  However, tomorrow I have the day off so expect a metric shit ton of new drawings to make up for the none drawings.  Here’s at least SOMETHING I’ve been working on:

rorschachcolor2-copy

rorschachcolor3-copy

I’m not sure which one I like better.  It’s not done yet, and I still need to find something to do with it.  FEEDBACK!

Alright, since I have no new drawings to offer, here’s a music update!

Stuff I’ve been listening to a lot lately!

Click on all the pictures to visit the bands myspace.

fuckedupchem

Ever since I saw them on Monday, I’ve been jamming this record a lot.  Side C is by far my favorite.  I love Black Albino Bones and Twice Born.  The whole record is real good though, check it out if you are into weird Black Flag-esque hardcore that’s more modern and indie influenced.

for-science

For Science’s last record, while not my personal favorite, is by far their most unique and original release.  The songs are all really catchy and sincere, and the lyrics are bizarre and clever.  Also, the artwork and layout is fantastic.  Don Giovanni records really know their shit.  My favorite tracks are Headaches and Tip of the Iceberg, but its really hard to choose as every song is awesome.  Check out everything this band has put out.  If you like the Ergs! then you will like this band.  I’m incredibly excited because I’m going to their last show on the 7th, along with The Steinways last show.  Should be a good time.

Speaking of which:

This CD is in my car stereo and probably won’t come out for a while.  If you don’t know The Ergs! then stop whatever you are doing and listen to them.  Too bad they broke up though.  They were one of the best live bands I’ve ever seen.  This record is awesome, and although its not as good as Dorkrockcorkrod, its still fan-fucking-tastic.  Favorite tracks are: Boston, Mass, It’ll Be OK, See Him Again, Things I Could Never Find A Way to Say, Stinking of Whiskey Blues, and Trouble in River City.  This record seriously rules.  Get it.  For fans of awesome things and the Descendents.

lemuria-the_first_collection

I already talked about them in the last post I made, but really the A-side of this record, the “Your Living Room’s All Over Me” 7″, really, really rules.  My favorite tracks are Bugbear and Keep Quiet.  Check them out.

Finally, here’s a slew of new-ish hardcore bands I’ve been digging recently: (Click on all the pictures fool)

Aerosols (Fast, sloppy, angry, raging hardcore)

aerosols-3rd-ep

Debaser (free demo download on their ‘space)

debaseramericandemo

Defeater (Verse/MLIW/American Nightmare influenced hardcore)

defeater

Failures (ex-Orchid, Das Oath)

Last Lights (Suicide File/Panic influenced)
